Quality improvements for damaged bridge aluminum doors and windows begin with these key aspects

To ensure that the technical requirements for exterior doors and windows are clearly defined during project design, procurement, and construction, achieving performance requirements in terms of wind pressure resistance, water tightness, airtightness, thermal insulation, sound insulation, daylighting, and safety, and to avoid the recurrence of common problems in exterior door and window projects, we share with you five key points for door and window quality control.
  First, sealing requirements
  1. Corner sealing strips (glue corners): Sealing strips should avoid corner splicing; corner sealing strips should be designed as 90-degree integral glue corners.
  2. Frame and sash sealing strips: Design three sealing rubber strips for the opening part of the sash: main sealing strip, sash pressure strip, and frame pressure strip.
  Secondly, leakage prevention requirements
  1. Exterior windows must be equipped with drainage channels, drainage outlets, and vents (pressure equalization vents) to drain water from inside the window frame and sash. The outside of the drainage outlet should be equipped with a cover to prevent strong winds from blowing rainwater and dust into the window sash.
  2. The thermal insulation strip should adopt a C-shaped structure, and the inner and outer aluminum profiles should be composite at the same horizontal level to avoid water leakage and corrosion risks caused by moisture in the thermal insulation strip, while increasing the length of the thermal insulation strip to improve thermal performance.
  3. Door and window opening dimensions: The structural opening should not be too large to avoid potential water leakage due to sealing difficulties.
  4. Groove: Due to special reasons, such as exterior walls being stone curtain walls, and the hole reservation size being larger, it is recommended to make a groove in the structural opening. The groove should be cast simultaneously with the concrete wall.
  5. Exterior window sill: For buildings with exterior wall materials as coatings, it is recommended to use metal window sills. The inner side of the metal window sill should be pressed into the window frame, and the outer side should protrude from the wall surface to form a drip.
  6. Window frame and structural opening: The window frame should be installed vertically. If installed horizontally, it should be retracted 20mm inward to prevent structural construction errors from causing the window frame to be installed on the outer skin of the structure, resulting in rainwater leakage.
Third, frame and sash structural requirements
  1. Corner assembly: Corner assembly is an important process related to the integrity of doors and windows.
  2. Bonding process: Under normal circumstances, corner brackets + bonding assembly should be used. Extrusion of window corners without bonding is prohibited.
  3. Glue injection process: Corner assembly can also use corner brackets + glue guide groove + injection hole + two-component glue injection + corner piece process to ensure corner strength requirements and ensure that the finished door and window products do not deform or shift after transportation and installation.
  Fourth, thermal insulation requirements
  1. Cavity design of profiles: Profiles should adopt a multi-cavity structure to reduce heat loss, and the upper and lower parts of the exterior window thermal insulation components should be coplanar to form an integral thermal insulation surface, eliminating cold bridges and blocking heat loss channels.
  2. Thermal insulation strips should be installed in the glass installation groove: Increase the number of air chambers to reduce heat loss between the insulated glass and the profile, improving the overall insulation effect of the window.
  3. The window sash should adopt a T-shaped thermal insulation strip design: The window sash thermal insulation strip is designed as a T-shape and bonded with the middle rubber strip to achieve cold and heat isolation at the sash frame connection. The middle rubber strip should not be placed directly on the aluminum profile of the sash.
  4. Polyamide 66 (i.e., polyamide 66, commonly known as nylon 66) should be used for thermal insulation strips.
  5. Glass warm edge spacer: A warm edge spacer should be set around the double-layer insulated glass cavity to block the heat dissipation channel of the glass cavity.
  6. In areas with higher requirements for thermal conductivity coefficient, thermal insulation materials can be added to the thermal insulation cavity of the profile according to the project positioning to meet the K-value requirements.
  7. Exterior doors: Ground floor exterior swing doors leading to the garden should have thresholds; thresholdless doors are prohibited. The bottom of the door should be sealed with a brush. Double exterior doors on the ground floor leading to the garden should overlap and block when closed; they should not be sealed with a brush.
  Fifth, safety technical requirements
  1. Glass buttons: Glass buttons should be installed on the indoor side. Turning the inner window into an outer window and installing the buttons on the outdoor side is prohibited to ensure anti-theft, safety, glass replacement, and no potential water leakage.
  2. Locking points: To improve the wind pressure resistance and anti-theft performance of exterior windows, exterior windows should have multi-point locks. Locking points should meet the design and installation manual requirements of the hardware manufacturer.
  3. The size of the exterior door at the unit entrance should not be too large to ensure the reliability of hardware accessories such as hinges and avoid safety accidents.
